Personal Information (Biography): Kara Jacobsen, MSN, RN, CNP is a certified pediatric nurse practitioner at Children's Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota. She currently works in the Emergency Department and the general pediatric clinic. Ms.Jacobsen has been with Children's since 1997 and enjoys evaluating and treating a variety of illnesses as well as providing anticipatory guidance and health promotion during sports physicals and well child exams. She has been a mentor and preceptor for nurse practitioner students from the University of Minnesota and the College of St. Catherine.
Ms. Jacobsen obtained BA in nursing at St. Olaf College in 1991. She moved to California and worked at Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles with hematology and oncology pediatric patients. In 1995, she obtained her Master's degree in nursing and pediatric nurse practitioner degree from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and her Doctorate in Nursing (DNP) from the University of MN in December 2010. Ms. Jacobsen holds certification as an PNP from the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board and is a member of NAPNAP both nationally and locally.
